Santa Maria Gang Member Arrested for Allegedly Threatening Officer

Santa Maria- An alleged gang member is sitting in the Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of threatening a police officer, according to the County Sheriff’s Office.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday that Jesse Contreras, 27 of Santa Maria, was taken into custody for allegedly making criminal threats against an officer. He was also booked on a gang allegation, with bail set at $150,000.

Contreras, a known street-gang member, was arrested following an investigation into allegations that he had made threats against a Santa Maria Police Officer, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Police located him at around 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 30th, in the 300-block of North Broadway, where Contreras was taken into custody by Sheriff’s Gang Unit detectives and Santa Maria Police Department officers.

Police say the Sheriff’s Gang Unit detectives worked closely with the Santa Maria Police Department during the investigation.
