Suspect Arrested in the Red Hawk Casino Murder

The El Dorado Sheriff’s Office has arrested Juarez Estephen, 33, a suspect in the Red Hawk Casino murder that occurred on November 21, 2012, according to an official press release.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the incident on November 21 occurred around 10:30 pm and involved the stabbing of Gene Mcarn, 19, who reportedly succumbed to his injuries and died. The stabbing occurred at the casino’s parking garage on the sixth level, where Mcarn was stabbed in the chest. Friends drive him to Placerville’s Marshall Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Sheriff’s Office had announced Estephen was a person of interest in the murder investigation in a press release on November 23.

On Monday, December 3, 2012, the Sheriff’s Office reportedly received information that Estephen was in the Cothrin Ranch area of El Dorado County.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, at about 10 pm deputies located an address on Cothrin Ranch Road where they could establish surveillance. Once positive identification of Estephen was made at the resident, deputies reportedly surrounded the residence and Estephen surrendered peacefully.

While evacuating the residence, an aggressive dog reportedly escape from inside and attacked an El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office K-9. The aggressive dog was shot and died of his injuries.
