Two rob convenience store, escape on foot

Two men robbed a Redlands AM/PM early Saturday morning.

REDLANDS – Police are seeking two armed men who early Saturday morning held up a convenience store that borders Loma Linda and offers easy escape.

Two men, one armed with a handgun and another with a knife, entered an AM-PM market on the 2000 block of West Redlands Boulevard shortly after 2 a.m. The suspects approached the clerk, demanded money, took cash from the register drawer and fled on foot across Redlands Boulevard, according to police reports. No vehicle was seen and there were no injuries.

Both suspects are described as Hispanic males, the first in his mid-20s, 5-foot-6, medium build with a mustache. The man, armed with a knife, was wearing a dark baseball cap with a logo.

The second suspect, who was carrying a handgun, was said to be in his early 30s, 6-feet tall, 240 pounds with a large build and was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and a bandana.

The AM/PM store, which is on the border of Redlands and Loma Linda, is located in an area surrounded by apartment buildings, near a Wal-Mart shopping complex and less than a quarter-mile from Interstate 10.

Police have released surveillance images of a June 18 convenience store robbery in Redlands.

“Locations such as this one are often targeted because of their easy freeway access,” said Redlands police spokesman Carl Baker.

The same market was the target of an unsolved robbery in which a clerk was shot in December. The suspect in that case remains at large. The clerk recovered from non-life threatening injuries and did not return to work.

Police had a videotape of the December crime, which involved a black male in his early 20s with a mustache and goatee.

Baker said he was unaware of any San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department or California Highway Patrol patrol rotations in that area.
