Suspect sought in Milpitas assault

MILIPITAS — Several homes were evacuated Sunday afternoon as a Milpitas police SWAT team descended on a residence on Coelho Street in pursuit of an assault suspect.

Officers responded to the residential area at about 12:15 p.m. after receiving reports of a fight involving several subjects.  Upon arrival, they found an unidentified 20-year-old man suffering from blunt force trauma to the head.  He was transported to an area hospital for treatment and is expected to survive the attack.

Witnesses described the suspect as a white male in his mid-30s with blonde hair. Officers learned that the suspect may be living in a home a few blocks away from the crime scene and dispatched the SWAT team in an effort to make an arrest.

“Due to the nature of the assault and other information developed during the investigation that cannot be disclosed at this time, the Milpitas Police Department SWAT team responded to attempt to locate the possible suspect,” Lt. Steve Petrakovitz said in a press release.

“Several homes near this residence were evacuated while the SWAT team attempted to contact anyone at the residence,” Petrakovitz continued. “A search of the residence found no one inside.”

Detectives are still actively investigating the incident and are asking for the public’s help. Anyone with information is asked to call the Milpitas Police Department at (408) 586-2400. Information may also be given anonymously by calling (408) 586-2500 or via the Milpitas Police Department website.
