From campus to clink for UC Santa Barbara student

SANTA BARBARA — During a pedestrian “stop” on the sidewalk of a local UC Santa Barbara neighborhood street Friday morning, sheriff’s narcotics detectives discovered 19-year-old Nicklaus Horsma to be in possession of 150 Ecstasy pills, an undisclosed amount of LSD and $1,000 in cash.

Shortly thereafter, search warrant in hand, investigators arrived at Horsma’s Isla Vista apartment complex residence.

Inside the apartment authorities found Marco Rodriguez, 19, a student enrolled at University of California in Santa Barbara, with approximately 400 Ecstasy pills, more than two pounds of psilocybin mushrooms and assorted paraphernalia, including scales and packaging materials in the residence. A wide array of evidence was documented and seized supporting allegations of Horsma’s ongoing drug sale and distribution activities.

Rodriguez was arrested and booked on suspicion of possession of illegal hallucinogens and is being held on $10,000 bail. Horsma was booked on suspicion of possession and transport of Ecstasy and psilocybin mushrooms for sale, with bail set at $30,000.
