Salinas Man Rides Into An Ambush
Suspects parked and waited for him to ride by
SALINAS—The Salinas Police Department has made three arrests in their 26th homicide of the year. A few minutes after the shooting occurred, officers arrested 22-year-old Antonio Lopez, 22-year-old Alejandro Saldana and 22-year-old Richard Vasquez all are believed to be members of a gang in Salinas.
Shortly before noon on Saturday, officers from the Salinas Police Department responded to the corner of Boronda Road and McKinnon Street in North Salinas on a report of a victim of a drive-by shooting. When officers arrived they found 24-year-old Eduardo Guijosa of Salinas on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound.
Guijosa was immediately transported by ambulance to a local hospital. He died from his injuries a short time later.
An immediate investigation revealed that Guijosa was riding his bicycle on Boronda Road when he was confronted by Lopez, Saladana and Vasquez, who had observed him in the area. In an effort to confront Guijosa, the three parked their vehicle nearby and waited for him. As Guijosa approached, both Saldana and Vasquez opened fire and hit Guijosa.
“All indications lead us to believe that the two suspects that shot him were outside the vehicle and wanted to confront him.” Salinas Police Commander Vincent Maiorana said, “According to our records, all subjects involved in this shooting had some sort of gang relationship.”
After the shooting the three left the area in the vehicle driven by Lopez. The Salinas Police, after learning about this information, broadcasted a B.O.L. (Be On the Lookout) city wide. The vehicle was spotted a short time later on West Curtis Street by Police, and still occupied by the suspects.
A felony stop or high risk stop was conducted and all three suspects were taken into custody without further incident. They were booked into the Monterey County Jail on charges of murder and participating in a criminal street gang activity.
“This case was solved very quickly because a witness stepped forward and gave us some information.” Commander Maiorana added, “That information led us to the capture of the suspects on Curtis Street. With community involvement we can put an end to the violence.”
The Salinas Police is still actively investigating this incident and is asking the public who may have witnessed the incident to call the Salinas Police Department at 1-831-758-7226
