PETALUMA — A San Pablo man has been arrested after allegedly striking an on-duty Petaluma firefighter with his vehicle.

Just after 3 AM on October 25, a firefighter was tending to a patient who was having a medical issue in the parking lot of a shopping center on McDowell Boulevard when he was approached by 30-year-old Everal Thompson, who began asking fire personnel questions as they continued to treat the patient.

After he was asked to leave, Thompson allegedly got into his car and struck the victim with his vehicle before fleeing the scene.

Thompson, who matched the description provided by the victim and was later positively identified by said victim, has since been arrested and booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

During a search of Thompson’s vehicle, police reportedly also found a loaded handgun. Being a convicted felon, Thompson is legally forbidden from owning or possessing firearms.
