Vehicle repo leads to attempted murder arrest

POWAY – A Poway man was arrested on a charge of attempted murder on April 9 after firing a shotgun at a tow truck driver who was repossessing his vehicle.

San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Joseph Silva, 46, for attempted murder and several additional felony offenses including firearms possession and drug possession. Silva is being held without bail. Sheriff’s deputies also arrested Silva’s companion, Bonnie Baker, 27, on several charges related to the incident.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were dispatched to the 16900 block of Old Coach Road in Poway at 2:30 p.m. on April 9 following a report that a man had fired a shotgun. When deputies arrived, they identified the man who fired the shotgun as Silva, took him into custody, and recovered the shotgun at the scene of the incident.

Deputies said that Silva confronted the tow truck driver when he arrived to repossess his vehicle and fired a shotgun in the direction of the driver when he attempted to tow the vehicle away. The driver was not injured.
