AVERY // On September 28th just after 1 AM, Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a family altercation that had resulted in someone being shot.

Sheriff’s deputies, as well as officers from Angels Camp PD and the CHP, arrived on scene — a business on the 4000 block of Highway 4 — to find a 19-year-old man dead from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. His identity is being withheld pending notification of family.

While the investigation is ongoing, police were able to determine that an altercation had taken place between family members prior to the shooting.

A 47-year-old Avery man was detained at the scene and eventually arrested and booked at the Calaveras County Jail on suspicion of murder, for which his bail rests at $2,000,000. His name, too, is not being released due to his relationship to the victim.

UPDATE (9/29/17): The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Cole Bilderback. The suspect is his father, 47-year-old David Bilderback.
