Child Molester Gets 290-Year Sentence

SACRAMENTO—A Sacramento man has been sentenced to nearly 300 years in prison after a jury convicted him on multiple counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor.

On May 27, Walter Kotko, 66, was convicted on 13 counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14, three counts of oral copulation or penetration on a child under 10, and two counts of sodomy or sexual intercourse with a child under 10, according to court records.

He was sentenced on Friday to 290 years to life in prison by the Honorable Russell Hom, according to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.

Kotko’s criminal history shows a pattern of lewd crimes. He was arrested in 2007 after reportedly molesting a female family member for two years when she was 8 to 10 years old. The victim’s mother found her crying in the bathroom one day, and the daughter told what Kotko had done to her.

After Kotko’s arrest, another victim came forward and said Kotko molested her from the age of 9 until she was 12 from 1994 to 1998. Courts records show these charges were added to the ongoing trial.
