TAFT — A Taft man was arrested on Tuesday night, after deputies discovered a little over a gram of methamphetamine in a hidden compartment of the vehicle he was driving.
Russell Jones Jr., 34, was booked into the Taft City Jail for possession of a controlled substance, transportation of a controlled substance, using a false compartment to store controlled substance and having no tail lamp on his vehicle.
According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, deputies patrolling the Taft area on May 20, noticed a vehicle with no working taillights, brake lights, or headlights, traveling southbound on 4th Street at around 11 p.m.
After initiating a routine traffic, deputies discovered that the driver, identified as Jones, was currently on probation.
As a condition of his probation Jones and his vehicle were searched by deputies, who said they found approximately 1.1 grams of suspected methamphetamine in a hidden compartment located in a center console.
