75 year-old Costa Mesa man suspected of shooting wife

COSTA MESA — A 75-year-old Costa Mesa man was arrested Thursday afternoon after police received reports of a man yelling outside a home in the 2000 block of Orange Avenue.

Upon arrival, police made contact with Kenneth Leake, 75, reportedly of 2020 Orange Avenue in Costa Mesa, and learned that there was a victim suffering from a gunshot wound inside the residence.

Officers entered the home and discovered the victim, Leake’s wife, Doris Leake, 72, conscious and breathing but with a gunshot wound to the head.

Doris Leake was treated and transported to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana where she is reportedly in stable condition and expected to survive, according to police.

The initial investigation lead to Kenneth Leake being arrested and booked into Costa Mesa jail for attempted murder.

Circumstances leading up to the shooting were not available and are still being investigated by the Costa Mesa Police Department’s Detective Bureau.
