Suspect Arrested in Sandwich Shop Assault

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department arrested Kenneth Chandler Anderson, 22, as a suspect in the violent attack and sexual assault of a Subway sandwich shop employee last week, according to an official press release. He was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on Friday, March 28 on one misdemeanor and four felony charges related to the attack. He is reportedly currently being held on $1 million bail.

According to a previous press release issued by Sac County Sheriff, at approximately 8:30 am on March 25 the Sheriff’s Department received a call from a female at a local sandwich stop in the 5000 block of Auburn Boulevard, reporting she had been assaulted by a stranger when she had arrived to work. Upon arrival, deputies reportedly discovered a victim in her early to mid 20s had been violently attacked inside the business. The victim had reportedly sustained significant physical injuries from the attack. She reportedly stated she had been sexually assaulted by a male wearing a mask over his face and dressed in all dark clothing. The victim had reportedly been taken to the hospital to receive immediate medical treatment.

According to Sac Sheriff, a motive for Anderson’s actions have yet to be determined, however, Anderson was a long time employee at the sandwich shop where the victim also worked.

His appearance has led to speculation that he is the serial rapist that was being sought earlier this year. A 20 to 40 year-old black man with short hair, a large build and rectangular glasses was described as being the wanted suspect in three attacks beginning in September. Another sexual assault occurred in December, and then in January; all suspects with the same description, and one that fits Anderson.

News 10 has reported that the sketches released of the wanted rape suspect were even displayed in the Subway where Anderson and his victim worked. They quoted a co-worker, Adam Dowdy, as saying that “When we first put the sketches up, he said, ‘wow that looks just like me.’ He did mention that”.

Detectives are still conducting an active investigation in this case and continue to ask that anyone with any information related to Anderson’s actions or this investigation, to please contact the Sheriff’s Department at (916) 874-5070.

Update: On Monday Afternoon, the Sacramento Sheriff’s office released a statement saying the they have now ruled out Anderson as a suspect in the earlier serial rape cases. Evidence, including DNA samples, did not match Anderson with the suspect in those incidents.
