California Inmate Extradited to Florida Following DNA Breakthrough in 1987 Cold Case

MONO COUNTY, CA — Gregory Russell Rollison, 60 of Coleville, has been extradited from a California prison to Florida to face charges in connection with a 1987 sexual assault and burglary case in Deerfield Beach.

According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, Rollison is accused of entering the apartment of an 85-year-old woman in July 1987 while she was asleep, assaulting her, and taking money and other items before fleeing the scene. While investigators identified a potential suspect during the initial inquiry, insufficient evidence was available at the time to make an arrest.

The cold case was subsequently revisited by Broward Sheriff’s Detective Andrew Gianino, an original responding officer from 1987. Investigators utilized recent advances in DNA testing technology to link Rollison to evidence collected from the crime scene, resulting in his identification and subsequent extradition to Florida.
