Police Recover Stolen Catalytic Converters Following Pursuit and Arrest of Two Suspects
PLACENTIA, CA — Two individuals were arrested early on the morning of July 30th following a vehicle pursuit and the recovery of six stolen catalytic converters in Orange County.
At approximately 3:45 a.m., Placentia Police Department officers responded to a burglary report in the 200 block of Sunrise Avenue. Upon arrival, officers determined that a catalytic converter had been stolen and that the suspects fled the scene in a white Tesla.
A Placentia police officer located a matching white Tesla near Orangethorpe Avenue and the 57 Freeway. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver failed to yield, initiating a pursuit. The pursuit ended when the Tesla collided with a wall at the intersection of the 91 Freeway and Brookhurst Street.
Following the collision, two occupants fled on foot. Officers from the Placentia Police Department, along with personnel from the Fullerton Police Department, Anaheim Police Department, and the California Highway Patrol, established a perimeter and took both suspects into custody.
A search of the Tesla revealed six recently stolen catalytic converters. The suspects were booked into the Orange County Jail on multiple charges and probation violations. According to the Placentia Police Department, Orange County has experienced an increase in catalytic converter thefts over the past month.
