VISALIA, CA — Visalia Police Department officers responded to the 1300 block of West Mary Court just before 11:30 p.m. on June 1 following reports of a vehicle striking a residence. Upon arrival, officers found an unoccupied white Ford F-150 that had crashed into the living room of the home. None of the occupants inside the house were injured as a result of the collision.
According to authorities, the driver, identified as 21-year-old Evette Hopson, fled the scene on foot immediately after the crash. A resident of the home pursued Hopson and attempted to detain her several blocks away. During the encounter, Hopson struck the resident, causing visible injuries.
Officers located Hopson nearby shortly after the incident. Authorities stated that she was combative and resisted officers before being taken into custody. Hopson was transported for medical clearance prior to being booked into jail.
Following an evaluation, officers determined that Hopson was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol and was over the legal limit. She faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence, driving with a blood alcohol content over 0.08%, resisting and obstructing officers, resisting an executive officer, hit-and-run property damage, and battery
