Multi-County Pursuit of Stolen Vehicle Ends in Arrest

BUTTE COUNTY, CA — A Red Bluff resident is in custody in after allegedly leading Butte County authorities on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle.

According to a press release by the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, a sergeant patrolling the area of Lincoln and Oro Dam boulevards on the night of Tuesday, June 9, spotted and recognized a 2017 Toyota Corolla that had been reported stolen out of Magalia.

The sergeant attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver allegedly sped away northbound on Lincoln Boulevard. The driver was later identified as 38-year-old Richelle Zuniga, the sheriff’s office said.

The ensuing chase continued onto Highway 70 into the Marysville area. At various points, Zuniga allegedly ran through multiple stop signs and struck a fence, causing significant damage to the vehicle and, ultimately, disabling it.

Zuniga allegedly then attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by deputies and Marysville police officers, according to the sheriff’s office.

Zuniga was arrested on suspicion of evading a police officer with wanton disregard of public safety, evading a police officer while driving the wrong way, possession of a stolen vehicle, and obstructing or resisting arrest.

At the time of arrest, Zuniga reportedly also had an outstanding felony PRCS Ramey warrant.
