Olivehurst Man Arrested for Homicide Following 2025 Fentanyl Overdose Death at Yuba County Jail
MARYSVILLE, CA — Detectives with the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a 39-year-old Olivehurst man for homicide in connection with a fatal, in-custody fentanyl overdose that occurred last year.
The suspect, identified as Marcus Daniels, was taken into custody on Monday, May 4, 2026, following an extensive multi-month investigation by sheriff’s detectives.
The case originated on September 8, 2025, when correction deputies discovered an inmate experiencing a severe medical emergency inside a housing unit at the Yuba County Jail. Jail medical staff, sheriff’s personnel, the Marysville Fire Department, and Bi-County Ambulance crews immediately initiated life-saving measures. Despite their combined efforts, the inmate could not be resuscitated and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Yuba County Sheriff’s Office detectives assumed control of the scene and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. A subsequent autopsy and toxicology screening officially determined the inmate’s cause of death to be a fentanyl overdose.
Over the course of the ensuing investigation, detectives uncovered evidence indicating that Daniels was responsible for smuggling and introducing the lethal supply of fentanyl into the correctional facility, directly leading to the inmate’s death. Daniels was booked into the Yuba County Jail, where he is being held on a homicide charge.
