Authorities Investigate Stabbing and Fatal House Fire in Apple Valley
SAN BERNARDINO, CA – On Friday, April 24, 2026, at approximately 8:49 a.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call on Washoan Road in Apple Valley regarding an unknown problem. Upon arrival, law enforcement located an adult male at a neighboring property suffering from severe injuries. A preliminary investigation indicated the man had been stabbed at the residence he shared with his wife.
As deputies approached the victim’s home, they observed smoke emanating from the interior. Initial attempts to enter the residence for a rescue operation were unsuccessful as the house had been barricaded. One family member managed to exit the home safely shortly before the sound of gunfire was reported from within the structure. The Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division (SED) arrived on the scene but was unable to establish contact with the suspect.
The residence subsequently became fully engulfed in flames, prompting the evacuation of surrounding homes. Personnel from the Apple Valley Fire District responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. Following the containment of the blaze, SED personnel entered the home and located a deceased female.
The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Detail assumed control of the case. Investigators determined that the victim and suspect were involved in a physical altercation during which the stabbing occurred, and that the suspect set the residence on fire following the confrontation. The male victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
The identity of the deceased woman is pending positive identification, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause and manner of death. The investigation remains active. Authorities are requesting that anyone with information contact the Specialized Investigations Division at 909-890-4904 or provide anonymous tips via We-Tip at 844-909-3006.
