Apprehension of Escaped Person Following Multi-Agency Investigation
IMPERIAL, CA — The Imperial County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on April 8, 2026, that Alexandra Meza has been located and returned to custody following her escape from a local medical facility. Meza was originally booked into the Imperial County Jail on March 24, 2026, on two misdemeanor drug-related bench warrants. On March 26, 2026, she was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center for a reported medical complaint.
While admitted to the hospital and under the supervision of contracted private security, Meza removed her restraints and escaped through a nearby door at approximately 5:00 a.m. on March 27, 2026. In response, the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office, with support from local law enforcement agencies, initiated an extensive search and issued a countywide alert notification regarding the escape.
On the morning of April 8, 2026, Meza was located by Mexicali Municipal Police in Mexicali, Mexico. She was subsequently turned over to Imperial County Sheriff’s Office investigators and Mexican Liaison officers at the Calexico Downtown Port of Entry. Following her apprehension, Meza was booked at the Imperial County Jail for her two previous bench warrants and an additional charge of 4532 PC. She is currently being held on $45,000.00 bail.
The Imperial County Sheriff’s Office acknowledged the United States Marshals Service, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, and federal, state, and municipal law enforcement partners in Mexico for their assistance in the investigation.
