CHULA VISTA, CA – Deputies from the Vista Sheriff’s Station responded to reports of a deceased individual on an empty lot in the 1200 block of Hacienda Drive on Monday, March 30, 2026. Upon arrival, law enforcement confirmed the death of the individual, identified as Jose Garcia Ramirez. Initial observations at the scene did not reveal obvious signs of trauma, and the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the decedent.
During a subsequent autopsy conducted on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, the Medical Examiner identified a brain bleed that may have resulted from head trauma. Following these findings, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Homicide Unit assumed responsibility for the investigation. On Friday, April 3, 2026, authorities arrested 26-year-old Arturo Garcia Morales in connection with the death. Garcia Morales was taken into custody in the 400 block of Seagaze Drive in Oceanside and was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on a murder charge.
Garcia Morales is currently being held without bail. His arraignment is scheduled for April 8, 2026, at the North County Superior Court. While the Medical Examiner’s Office works to determine the final cause and manner of death, the investigation remains active.
