Anaheim Woman Accused of Murdering, Decapitating Boyfriend and Fleeing to Mexico Has Been Arrested

SANTA ANA, CA — An Anaheim woman accused of killing and decapitating her partner and fleeing to Mexico has been apprehended and returned to the United States to face charges, according to authorities.

In a press release, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office announced that 23-year-old Alyssa Marie Lira has been charged with one count of felony murder, with a felony enhancement for the use of a personal weapon, in connection with the murder of Enrique Gonzales-Carbajal, 55, of Anaheim.

The initial investigation began on August 25, 2025, when Anaheim police discovered Gonzales-Carbajal’s decapitated body in Lira’s apartment.

Investigators quickly identified Lira as the primary suspect and discovered that she had fled to Mexico immediately after the murder.

Over the ensuing five months, Anaheim police coordinated with the FBI and Mexican officials to locate and arrest Lira. She was ultimately arrested on January 22, 2026, and turned over to the custody of Anaheim police detectives the next day at the San Ysidro Point of Entry.

She was later booked at the Anaheim Police Department Detention Facility on suspicion of murder and is being held without bail, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Her next court appearance is reportedly scheduled for February 13, 2026. If convicted as charged, she faces 26 years to life in prison.
