Suspect Arrested on Murder Charges Just Hours After Fatal Stabbing in Riverside
RIVERSIDE, CA — An investigation into a fatal stabbing that occurred last Tuesday, December 9, 2025, has led to a swift arrest, the Riverside Police Department announced in a statement released on Sunday, December 14th. A suspect was apprehended within hours of the reported incident, marking a rapid development in the case.
At approximately 12:20 p.m., RPD officers were dispatched to the 3700 block of University Avenue following a report of a stabbing. Responding officers located an adult male who had sustained multiple stab wounds. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The individual was identified as 35-year-old Jullian Hughes of Moreno Valley. The perpetrator reportedly left the area prior to the arrival of law enforcement.
Detectives from the RPD Robbery–Homicide Unit, along with Forensics Unit Specialists, assumed control of the investigation. The investigation received assistance from the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office and the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.
Through collaboration with the RPD Public Safety Engagement Team (PSET) and the Crime Analysis Unit, investigators quickly identified the suspect as 34-year-old John Larry Perryman of Riverside. Officers from the METRO Team located Perryman in the vicinity of 14th Street and Sedgewick Avenue and successfully took him into custody approximately two hours after the attack was reported.
Perryman was subsequently booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center and faces a charge of murder. He is currently being held without bail. This incident is far from Perryman’s first brush with law enforcement as an arrest records search indicates he has been arrested numerous times in recent years for a wide variety of offenses. Perryman’s prior arrests may be viewed at the bottom of the page here.
Riverside Police Chief Larry Gonzalez acknowledged the collaborative effort, stating, “I’m grateful for the swift and coordinated efforts of our officers, detectives, Crime Analysis Unit, METRO Team, and especially our PSET Team, in quickly identifying and arresting the suspect.”
