Vallejo Man Arrested for Alleged Armed Robbery, Carjacking
FAIRFIELD, CA — “On Saturday, December 6, at approximately 8:00 am, the Fairfield Police Department Dispatch Center received a report regarding an armed robbery with a handgun at the Am/Pm Mini Mart at 2329 North Texas Street. Fairfield patrol officers responded and began searching for the suspect, who had fled the scene.
At approximately 10:10 am, the suspect was located on foot near Fairfield Avenue and Tabor Avenue. Upon spying officers, the man ran and began jumping fences into residential backyards. Officers swiftly worked to set up a perimeter, using drones and a coordinated team in an effort to locate the suspect.
While the perimeter was being established, the suspect forcibly broke into an occupied home and, while still armed, robbed the homeowner of their keys, and stole their pickup truck to use as a getaway vehicle.
Solano Sheriff’s deputies were first to spot the truck and initiated a pursuit, before being quickly joined by members of Fairfield Police Department. The pursuit continued through Fairfield, into Suisun, onto Highway 12, and then westbound onto Interstate 80.
Throughout the pursuit, the suspect repeatedly drove at dangerously high rates of speed. Due to the suspect’s reckless driving and the risk posed to other motorists, officers discontinued the pursuit. A “be on the lookout” (BOL) was immediately issued, extending into Napa County and alerting nearby agencies.
The case didn’t end there, however, thanks to real-time alerts from the Flock Safety system, sound tactics, multi-agency cooperation, information sharing, and the dedicated professionalism of the law enforcement officers and dispatchers involved.
Officers received additional real-time alerts from the vehicle as it passed Flock cameras in Solano County at Mankas Corner and Suisun Valley Road at 10:37 am and cameras in St. Helena on Highway 128 at 11:27 am.
Then, at approximately 11:43 am, the vehicle was located in Napa County. Napa Sheriff’s deputies arrested the suspect, 34-year-old Vallejo resident Kevin Kepford, and recovered the firearm evidence purportedly used in both earlier robberies.
Fairfield Police responded to Napa and took custody of the suspect, firearm, and the stolen vehicle. Kepford will be booked at the Solano County Jail on numerous felony charges, to include armed robbery, home invasion robbery, carjacking, and felony invasion.”
