Officer-Involved Shooting Following Dog Bite Incident in San Francisco Tenderloin District
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — November 9th 2025 — An officer-involved shooting occurred in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District on November 9, 2025, following a reported dog bite incident. At approximately 4:27 p.m., San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) officers were alerted by a dog bite victim near the intersection of Market and O’Farrell streets. Officers were informed that a large, off-leash dog had bitten the victim unprovoked and continued to display aggression toward other individuals in the vicinity.
SFPD officers subsequently located and made contact with a male subject and his dog. During the process of attempting to detain the subject and secure the animal, an officer-involved shooting took place. The large, off-leash dog initially fled the scene but later returned and bit one of the responding SFPD officers. The injured officer received medical attention at the location and was released.
Officers administered aid to the male subject at the scene before paramedics transported him to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The initial dog bite victim self-transported to a local hospital for treatment of his own injuries. Animal Care and Control (ACC) responded to the area and took custody of the dog.
This incident is subject to a multi-agency investigation involving the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, the SFPD Investigative Services Division (ISD), the SFPD Internal Affairs Division (IAD), and the Department of Police Accountability (DPA). As part of standard procedure, the SFPD has announced a town hall meeting regarding this incident will be held within ten days.
