SFPD Intensifies Drug Crackdown, Logs Over 70 Arrests and 9.4 Pounds of Narcotics Seized

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – San Francisco police officers, in collaboration with various law enforcement partners, have made over 70 arrests and seized nearly ten pounds of narcotics during an intensified operation targeting drug activity in the city. The efforts focused on the Tenderloin, South of Market, and Mission neighborhoods, Interim Chief Paul Yep announced on Friday.

The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) increased enforcement activities last week, scaling up operations such as buy busts and fugitive enforcement. Concurrently, the California Highway Patrol increased its officer deployment on city streets to provide assistance in the enforcement drive.

Chief Yep stated that the SFPD is increasing its efforts to address drug markets and illegal activity within San Francisco. He confirmed that the operations will continue in the coming weeks as the department works with city, state, and federal law enforcement partners to remove drugs from the streets.

To bolster these operations, Chief Yep previously reassigned personnel from several investigative and patrol units to assist officers working within the Drug Market Agency Coordination Center (DMACC).

Since October 28, the SFPD has arrested at least 28 drug dealers and confiscated 9.4 pounds of narcotics, which included fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine. Additionally, a one-day operation on Wednesday resulted in the arrest of 40 individuals on outstanding warrants for various crimes. The SFPD has worked with the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation on these initiatives.

DMACC was established in 2023 as a multi-agency task force dedicated to addressing street conditions and crime linked to drug dealing and use in the Tenderloin and South of Market. The program expanded its reach into the Mission District earlier this year. Since the launch of DMACC, the SFPD reports seizing 950 pounds of narcotics, including 342 pounds of fentanyl, and recording 10,955 total arrests, with 2,245 arrests for drug dealing.

Recent enforcement efforts have focused on the Sixth Street corridor in the South of Market area and the vicinities of the 16th Street and 24th Street BART plazas in the Mission District. The SFPD affirmed its commitment to these continuing efforts.
