Man Booked on Multiple Weapon & Threat Charges Following Frightening Incident at Folsom High School
FOLSOM, CA – The Folsom Police Department has announced the arrest of a 53 year old Folsom man in connection with an incident involving threatening statements made at Folsom High School the previous evening.
The individual, since identified as Curt Taras, 53, of Folsom, was apprehended after authorities responded to the school campus. At approximately 6:32 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24, officers were dispatched to the high school grounds following reports of a man making threats while on campus. According to FHS Principal Howard Cadenhead, a safety measure was implemented, briefly placing all athletes still on campus into locked facilities.
Officers successfully located and detained Mr. Taras at 1725 Iron Point Road. Following an investigation, he was arrested and subsequently booked into the Sacramento County Jail at 2:51 a.m. on September 25. Mr. Taras is currently in custody and ineligible for bail.
He faces multiple charges, including Criminal Threats (Penal Code 422), Possession of Concealed Firearm in Vehicle (Penal Code 25400(a)(1)), and Possession of High-Capacity Magazine (Penal Code 32310(a)). Further allegations include Possession of Firearm within 1000 ft of a School (Penal Code 629.9(b)), Possession of Knife on School Campus (Penal Code 626.10(a)), and Violation of Court Order (Penal Code 273.6(a)).
According to California Secretary of State and Linkedin records, Mr. Taras has owned and operated of a Folsom-based civil and structural engineering consulting firm, Infrastructure Improvement Inc. since 2018, and he previously served as a Captain in the United States Air Force with the 77th Civil Engineer Group at McClellan Air Force Base in the mid-to-late 1990s.
Arrest records indicate a previous arrest in August 2024 for suspicion of Battery on a Spouse/Cohabitant/or Former Spouse, though it remains unclear if formal charges were filed in relation to that incident.
Jail records show that Mr. Taras is scheduled for a court appearance at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, September 29, in Department 60 of the Lorenzo Patino Hall of Justice.
The Folsom Police Department acknowledged the importance of the reporting individuals, whose quick notification enabled officers to swiftly secure the suspect.
