Nikki McCain Disappearance: Husband Identified as Suspect, Arrested on Suspicion of Murder

SHASTA COUNTY, CA — Authorities in Shasta County have announced the arrest of Tyler Scott McCain in connection with the death and disappearance of his wife, Nikki Cheng Saelee McCain.

According to a press release by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, Nikki’s family members filed a report of her disappearance with the Redding Police Department on May 22 of this year. Police reportedly transferred the case to the sheriff’s office two days later, upon learning that Nikki had last been seen in an area that fell under their jurisdiction.

Investigators began searching for Nikki and her vehicle, a Chevy Avalanche. On May 25, an individual reportedly discovered the vehicle off Highway 36 near Beegum Gorge Bridge.

Physical evidence collected from the scene indicated foul play. Based on this evidence, information gathered during interviews, and the fact that none of Nikki’s family had heard from her since her disappearance, investigators believe she has been a victim of homicide, the sheriff’s office said.

On Wednesday, Aug. 20, authorities reportedly arrested Nikki’s husband, Tyler, as the primary suspect in her murder. He was booked into the Shasta County jail and is not eligible for bail.

Authorities are offering a reward of up to $30,000 for information leading to Nikki’s whereabouts. Anyone with information relevant to this case is encouraged to contact the Major Crimes Unit by email at MCU@shastacounty.gov or by phone at 530-245-6135.
