Cathedral City Man Arrested in February Fatal DUI Collision in Palm Springs
The Palm Springs Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with a fatal traffic collision that occurred earlier this year. The incident took place on February 28, 2025, at the intersection of East Ramon Road and Grenfall Road in Palm Springs.
Following an investigation by the department’s Traffic Division, 29-year-old Baltazar Moyotl Acuahuitl of Cathedral City was identified as the driver responsible for the collision. He was arrested on May 28, 2025, and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Banning on a charge of homicide under California Penal Code 187.
Investigators reported that Moyotl Acuahuitl was driving eastbound on East Ramon Road at a high rate of speed when he crossed into westbound lanes and collided head-on with another vehicle. The driver of that vehicle sustained a critical head injury and died on March 12, 2025.
Toxicology results indicated that Moyotl Acuahuitl had a controlled substance in his system at the time of the crash. Authorities also confirmed he had two previous DUI convictions. Based on the findings, investigators concluded that his impaired driving and prior history were contributing factors in the collision.
