A Costa Mesa man has reportedly been arrested on suspicion of the fatal stabbing of his partner over the weekend.

According to a press release, officers responded on the night of Sunday, Sept. 8, to the 500 block of Victoria Street for a report of a female in need of medical aid.

Responding officers, along with Costa Mesa Fire and Rescue, arrived on scene and discovered Denise Avila, 29, deceased at the scene of multiple stab wounds.

The suspect, reportedly her live-in partner, had been seen fleeing in a vehicle prior to officers’ arrival, police said.

The suspect, identified as Martin Laragarcia, 28, later returned to the residence while police were still on scene. He was taken into custody without incident.

Police reportedly recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the homicide.

The investigation is still active. Anyone with information relevant to the case is encouraged to reach out to Detective Eloisa Peralta at 714-754-5039.
