Man Arrested on Suspicion of Murder, Elder Abuse in Connection with Mother’s Death

“On January 15, 2024, Santa Ana Police officers responded to a local hospital to investigate a report of suspected elder abuse. The victim, an 82-year-old female, was transported by ambulance to the hospital, and she was found to be unconscious and suffering from numerous wounds consistent with neglect.

Detectives from the Special Crimes Section conducted follow-up and identified the victim’s son, Richard Towers (50), as the victim’s primary caretaker. A search warrant was served at Tower’s home where evidence was collected. On January 25, 2024, the victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital and an arrest warrant was issued for Towers.

On February 12, 2024, Towers responded to the Santa Ana Police Department and turned himself in. Detectives arrested and booked Towers at the Santa Ana Jail for CPC 187(a)- Murder and CPC 368(b)(1)- Elder and Dependent Abuse.
