On Saturday, October 7, 2023, at approximately 5 PM, North Patrol Deputies conducted an enforcement stop of a vehicle near 2000 Howe Avenue. They contacted the driver, who gave what turned out to be a false name. As deputies were attempting to verify his identity, the driver, later identified as 21-year-old Kalen Fortuna, fled on foot and attempted to carjack another vehicle nearby. Deputies were able to catch up to Fortuna before he was successful and took him into custody without further incident.

A search of Fortuna’s vehicle revealed a loaded unregistered short barreled rifle with two loaded 30 round magazines, multiple large bags of bulk packaged marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms, multiple scales and small baggies.

Fortuna was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for various felony weapons and drugs charges, along with attempted carjacking. He is currently being held on a $100,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow, October 10, 2023.
