Two individuals from the Bay Area were recently arrested in connection with two theft incidents in Colma.

According to a press release by the Colma Police Department, officers responded to a theft report on the 4900 block of Junipero Serra Boulevard on the evening of August 24. The incident reportedly involved a male and a female suspect who allegedly stole merchandise from a store in the area and had fled in a vehicle on northbound Junipero Serra Boulevard.

A second theft report soon came from the unit block of Colma Boulevard involving suspects and a vehicle with similar descriptions as the first incident.

An officer in the area spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, detaining the two occupants. At one point, one of the occupants — an adult male passenger — allegedly became argumentative and refused to exit the vehicle. Officers eventually made the choice to remove him and put him in handcuffs. Police then patted him down and reportedly discovered a loaded semi-automatic handgun hidden in his waistband.

Both occupants — a man and woman from San Francisco and Oakland, respectively, both age 27 — were positively identified as the suspect in the two theft incidents. Stolen merchandise from both places was recovered and returned, police said.

The woman was discovered to be on probation for identity theft out of Santa Clara County. She was cited and released for misdemeanor theft, police said.

The man was discovered to be a convicted felon, and the weapon he was allegedly carrying was identified as an unregistered 9mm Glock. He was later booked at the San Mateo County jail on suspicion of weapons violations.

Police have elected not to release the names of the suspects at this time. All persons arrested on suspicion of a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
