Culver City police have announced the arrest of a suspect in connection to an alleged robbery and stabbing on Cota Street in late May.
According to a press release by Culver City PD, officers responded to a call for service on the 5100 Block of Cota Street around mid-morning on May 25. The call reported a male subject who had been robbed and had sustained an injury in the process. Officers arrived at the scene and met with the victim to gather information.
According to the victim’s statement, a male suspect approached him in the vicinity of La Ballona Creek, west of Overland Avenue, armed with a knife. When the suspect allegedly demanded the victim’s phone, a struggle ensued, during which the suspect allegedly swung the knife in the victim’s direction, resulting in a non-life-threatening stab wound to the victim’s hand. The suspect allegedly took the victim’s phone, rode away on a bicycle, and fled eastbound through the creek.
The Culver City Fire Department arrived at the scene and provided medical treatment to the victim for his injuries.
In response to the incident, detectives from the Culver City Police Department responded and began an investigation. They soon identified a 27-year-old male as the suspect involved in the robbery. On June 2nd, a patrol officer observed the suspect in the vicinity of La Ballona Creek, leading to the suspect’s arrest on suspicion of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
The Culver City Police Department plans to present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration. The suspect’s name has not been released. It was unclear at press time whether the suspect had retained an attorney.
