In the early hours of May 16th, 2023, tragedy struck the peaceful neighborhood of Red Feather Lane in Lakeport, California, when the Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a distressing 911 call reporting a stabbing incident. Deputies swiftly responded to the scene and discovered Christopher Aaron Burrows lying on the ground, suffering from a serious stab wound. Despite the immediate life-saving efforts of the deputies and subsequent arrival of paramedics, Burrows tragically succumbed to his injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, deputies promptly secured the area and sought the assistance of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit. The specialized unit, equipped with the necessary expertise in handling complex criminal investigations, took charge of the case.
Following an extensive and meticulous investigation that involved numerous interviews and a thorough examination of nearby video surveillance footage, the Major Crimes Unit identified Melinda Fred, 39 years old, as a person of interest. Subsequently, Fred was questioned by authorities and subsequently placed under arrest on charges of murder.
Melinda Fred was subsequently booked into the Lake County Correctional Facility, facing charges that include violation of section 187(A) PC for first-degree murder and section 245(A)(1) PC for assault with a deadly weapon, excluding a firearm.
