Investigation into a Christmas-Day Homicide – a Family Torn Apart

WEST COVINA – An early-afternoon 911 call on Christmas Day sent West Covina Police Department Officers to the scene of a shooting that had occurred just minutes before 1 PM on the 2600 block of South Azusa Avenue. The incident had taken place in an apartment within the complex.

Once inside, the officers located a deceased male and and a critically-injured female. Both had suffered gunshot wounds.
The adult female was immediately rushed to a local hospital. Tragically, she perished just a few hours later.

Two children were in the apartment during the tragedy. They were immediately taken into protective custody.

Investigators later learned that the anonymous man (46), and the anonymous female (37), were living together and dating one another. It was revealed on 12/28/2021 that an altercation between the couple had led to the shooting.

At this time, West Covina PD Investigators believe that that there are no further outstanding threats to the community nor outstanding suspects. The two children were later released to family members.

The investigation in ongoing. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office is withholding the names of the deceased while this case remains under investigation.
