Suspect arrested in June murder of 17-year-old Johnny Avalos

Christian Alberto Nava of Anaheim has been arrested for the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Johnny Avalos that occurred in June.

The shooting took place after midnight on June 27th, in the 2200 block of W. Colchester Drive in Anaheim.  Following the incident, Anaheim police attempted to locate the driver of a dark pickup truck that towing small trailer, who may have witnessed the murder of the Anaheim boy.

After a three-month investigation, police identified 22-year-old Nava as the suspect.  On Friday, September 17th, he was located and taken into custody without incident near Katella Avenue and Lewis Street in Anaheim.

Nava was originally booked at the Anaheim Detention Facility but was later transferred to Orange County Jail.  His bail has been set at $1 million.

He is scheduled to appear in court on October 7th.
