Man Struggling with Mental Health and Under the Influence Shot By Resident During Home Invasion
A man reported to be struggling with mental health issues broke into a Newport Beach residence and was fatally shot by someone inside.

Prior to the shooting—at about 4:13am on Thursday, August 26th—Newport Beach police received a call about the man.  According to the release, the subject was “reportedly suffering from mental health issues and/or possibly under the influence of drugs and alcohol.”

Officers were in the process of responding to the reported area of Indus Street and Redlands Drive when the man “forcibly entered” a home close by.  Before police arrived, an occupant of the home shot and killed him.  Officers located him deceased at the scene upon arrival.

“At this time, NBPD Detectives and Crime Scene Investigation personnel are conducting an active homicide investigation,” states the release.  “The preliminary investigation indicates this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.”
