A man on parole was recently arrested after being caught with nearly a pound of meth in Clearlake, police say.

Late on the morning of August 2, a patrol officer came across 36-year-old Michael Mitchell of Clearlake, whom he knew to be on parole out of Utah for drug trafficking. Upon seeing the officer, Mitchell discarded the backpack he’d been holding in an apparent attempt to hide it.

The officer made contact with Mitchell and conducted a parole search of the bag, reportedly finding two large zip-loc bags full of suspected meth, a digital scale, and a large amount of cash. Police say the combined weight of the meth in the two bags was nearly a pound.

Mitchell was ultimately arrested on probable cause for possession of a controlled substance for sale and transportation of a controlled substance for sale, but was not booked per the county’s emergency bail schedule, police said.
