A Galt man has been arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting his wife, according to police.

On the night of July 23, officers responded to the 10000 block of Walnut Avenue to investigate a reported shooting. At the scene, officers discovered the victim — a 56-year-old woman — suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. She was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigation identified her husband, 56-year-old Agustin Granados Camacho, as the primary suspect. Investigators determined Camacho and his wife had gotten into a verbal argument that had escalated to Camacho shooting her and then fleeing the residence into a nearby orchard.

Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies, Elk Grove police, CHP, SWAT joined the investigation. Camacho eventually surrendered to SWAT personnel without incident. A shotgun was later recovered from the orchard.

Camacho was booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of murder, possession of a stolen firearm, and discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner.
