On May 30, 2021, at approximately 2230 hours, Ms. Wendy Garcia, age 35, of Washington State was driving her 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe eastbound on Rosamond Boulevard approaching the Edwards Air Force base west gate.

Because Ms. Garcia was traveling at a high rate of speed, she lost control of her vehicle as she entered the serpentine portion of the gate.

Her vehicle overturned several times and several unrestrained juveniles were ejected from the vehicle.

Tragically, a seven (7) year old female was also ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries.

Immediately following the collision, responding law enforcement officers were assaulted by Ms. Garcia.

Officers received minor injuries and were treated at the scene. Ms. Garcia was arrested by members of the California Highway Patrol and was booked at the Kern County Sheriff’s Jail in Bakersfield for suspicion of Driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and vehicular homicide.
