A Sacramento County man was arrested following a scuffle in which he’d allegedly injured two officers who had approached him about a suspected traffic violation, according to Folsom police.

In the early morning hours of March 21, officers approached a man — later identified as 26-year-old Antonio Tavera of Orangevale — in the area of Madison Avenue and Main after allegedly seeing him commit a traffic violation. Upon seeing them, Tavera reportedly hid something in his vehicle, then fought them before running away. The officers sustained minor injuries.

More officers responded to the scene and searched the area but were unable to locate Tavera until that night, when he returned to the area and police tried to pull him over. Tavera reportedly fled from the car on foot and hid somewhere in the neighborhood near Madison Avenue and Blue Oak Drive.

Once surrounded, Tavera surrendered and was taken into custody on suspicion of resisting police, battery on an officer, being a felon in possession of a pistol (the item he’d hidden in his vehicle earlier turned out to be a pistol), possession of a pistol, obstructing an officer, and violation of Post-Release Community Supervision.
