LOS ANGELES – A mother from Rancho Palos Verdes was sentenced on 01/13/2021 for the death of her 2-year-old daughter she’d left alone in a car in 2019. Case TA150231 was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Lacey Ana Mazzarella, 35, pleaded no contest on October 20 to one count each of voluntary manslaughter, mayhem, and child abuse resulting in death, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutor Deputy District Attorney David Zygielbaum said, “Just before midnight on Sept. 22, 2019, Mazzarella left June Love A. in a car in West Carson. The child was left covered with a blanket and the heater on while the defendant drank alcohol in another nearby vehicle until she passed out.”

As a tragic result, added Prosecutor Zygielbaum,”When Mazzarella returned early the next morning, the child was dead and the engine and heater were still running.”

The mother will be spending 14 years and eight months in state prison.
