In the early morning of November 1, 2020, Porterville Police Officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of West Tomah Avenue regarding a one car collision into an apartment complex.

The driver of the involved vehicle was 19-year old Alexis Mendoza. While traveling at a high speed, Mendoza lost control of his vehicle trying to negotiate a turn, travelled off the roadway, and
crashed into the complex.

Sadly, he struck a sleeping child who was severely injured. She was airlifted to Fresno Community Regional Medical Center but did not survive.

Mendoza was determined to have been driving under the influence of alcohol when he crashed into the building. He was arrested and booked into the custody of the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department with bail set at $100,000.
