Pomona Gang Member Fails to Yield to Traffic Stop – Attempts to Flee

POMONA – Officers from Pomona Police Department’s, Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF) – initiated a quarter-to-midnight traffic stop in the area of Garey Ave. and Grand Ave. regarding a window tint violation on 09/22/2020.

“MCTF is a specialized unit within the police department that is responsible for suppressing gang violence, investigating drug offenses and pursuing wanted persons,” said M. Medellin, Sergeant, Major Crimes Task Force. “The team is comprised of two supervisors, five officers and two additional officers from the California Highway Patrol – Baldwin Park Office.”

As the vehicle failed to yield, Officers followed. It eventually stopped in the area of Garey Ave. and Franklin Ave.

Immediately, the passenger ran from the vehicle. After a short foot pursuit, the fleeing man was caught.

“Gustavo Maldonado was found to have a loaded firearm in the vehicle.” said MCTF Sgt. Medellin.
“Maldonado is a documented gang member from the city of Pomona.”

Maldonado (32) was booked at the Pomona City Jail and charged with the following:
29800 (a)(1) PC – Felon in Possession of a Firearm
30305 (a)(1) PC – Felon in Possession of Ammunition
186.22 PC – Gang Enhancement
11350 (a) H&S – Possession of Narcotics
3455 PC – Probation Violation
