NIPOMO – A shooting occurred on the morning of August 21 at the Von’s shopping center.

Apparently 42-year-old Scott Huffman of Bakersfield was shooting at the doors of the Vons gas station convenience store.

Then Huffman began walking, firing “multiple rounds toward businesses on the south side of Tefft.”

Next, he shot at a Cal Fire firetruck as it passed by on another call, hitting the passenger door multiple times.

Finally he walked the center median and “pointed his handgun at motorists.”

By this time Huffman was back at the convenience store, and went in, firing several rounds once he was inside.

Deputies and a CHP officer arrived and Huffman came back out of the store, at which time an officer involved shooting took place.

Huffman subsequently died from his wounds.

The press release concludes, “The Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit immediately began an Officer Involved Shooting investigation with assistance from the California Highway Patrol and FBI. At this point, a motive for the shooting is still being investigated. No further information is available at this time.”
