In a smaller community, it is not as difficult to spot and apprehend a felon at large, as the Corning Police Department –
“Last night Corning Police Officers were involved in a vehicle pursuit with 54-year-old James Robert Smith a.k.a. “Woody”, of Corning.
During the pursuit Mr. Smith crashed into an olive tree and then subsequently backed into one of our patrol cars before fleeing on foot.
An exhaustive search ensued and officers and allied agencies were unable to locate him.
This morning Officers made another attempt to locate Mr. Smith and he was taken into custody at a residence just outside the city at around 8:12 am.
We are thankful our officer did not sustain injuries during last nights incident.”
