CLEARLAKE — A 59-year-old man from Rodeo, CA has been arrested after being caught with drugs and a gun during a traffic stop.

Just after 12:30 AM on August 30, a patrol officer pulled over John Cooper and a passenger on the 15000 block of Lakeshore Drive when he noticed Cooper had been driving with inoperable license plate lamps.

When contacted, Cooper reportedly exhibited signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance and was asked to get out of the car, to which he repeatedly refused.

When he finally got out, he was arrested for obstructing.

The officer then found an unregistered, loaded .38 caliber revolver in Cooper’s back pocket, as well as an approximate 13.8 grams of methamphetamine.

Cooper, a convicted felon, now faces additional charges of carrying a concealed firearm, being armed during the commission of a felony, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance while armed, and possession for sales of a controlled substance.

He was booked into Lake County Jail on $50,000 bond.
