Library Sexual Battery and Crime Spree, Suspect Sought

LA VERNE – Officers responded to the call when a male suspect committed sexual battery then went on a crime spree that began in the La Verne Public Library.

One female reported that the man grabbed her buttocks and squeezed them, while brushing his body against her before dropping out of sight.

Next, he appeared in the women’s restroom, peeking over the top of the bathroom stall at a female patron using the restroom.
Upon discovery, he fled out the south side emergency doors on Durward Way. Officers searched the immediate area, where witnesses reported seeing him run in a northerly direction toward Fruit Street and west of Foothill Blvd.

Witnesses’ descriptions revealed a male Hispanic in his late 20s, approximately 5’8″, thin build, shaved head, wearing baggy jeans, a royal blue “dry fit” type shirt, and a white and black camouflage-type printed hoodie.

Moments later, a mobile-home resident reported a stolen car and described a shirtless thief matching that of the suspect. The matching shirt and hoodie were discovered in a neighbor’s backyard.

La Verne PD announced yesterday, “The vehicle stolen on March 29th at approximately 12:13 is a white Buick Century 4-door with license plates SHVH674. Anyone with information about these crimes is encouraged to call La Verne PD’s Watch Commander at (909) 596-1913.”
