3-month Investigation Leads to Robbery Arrest of Juvenile

HOLLISTER — The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest after a three-month investigation into a robbery which occurred at the Hillcrest Market at 1331 Hillcrest Road. Evidence pointed to a 16-year-old local juvenile as the primary suspect.

On Sunday evening at around 5:20 pm, a male subject entered the Hillcrest Market armed with a handgun and demanded money, brandishing the gun as he did so.

He then left the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.  Nobody was injured and there were no shots fired. Deputy Casada was the first to arrive on scene and began an initial investigation by interviewing witnesses.

In the weeks since, Deputy Casada developed leads towards a possible suspect and was able to obtain a positive identification from the witness in the case. The suspect was identified as a 16-year-old male from Hollister.

On Friday, March 3, Deputy Casada authored a search warrant for the juvenile and his residence on El Toro Court in the city of Hollister.  The warrant was signed on Sunday night, March 5, 2017.

On the morning of March 6, Deputy Casada and other San Benito County Sheriff Deputies served the search warrant.  The juvenile was taken into custody and evidence connecting him to the robbery was found at the home.

The 16-year-old juvenile was transported to the San Benito County Juvenile Hall and will be facing charges of armed robbery.
